Albury to get mental health rehab services boost

In October 2017, Premier Barry O'Farrell said the state had been able to secure a $400,000 grant from the Howard government to provide for the mental health of those who have committed acts of terrorism during the past month.

However, there remains a lack of mental health services for young people, or those in remote communities and Indigenous communities.

A recent submission from the Howard government indicated that mental health services would be increased at a cost of $50 million over three years to supplement state funding and that this "would increase our overall health service and impact on other services".

The submission said that the "significant financial and technological investments necessary to meet the proposed measures to address terrorist risks are needed to assist vulnerable Australians who may be unable to access services due to the lack of capacity to cope with the complexity of modern day life and the rapidly changing lifestyle, including internet use".

The Government would not provide more information on the impact of the measures.

Mr O'Farrell said: "I want our communities to come together in one community to protect themselves from terrorist risks and to protect us all from the challenges we face as a nation."
